INCrowd Interstate Interview, 6/14/08 - Denise Mollison

Denise Mollison was cool enough to stop by our weekly new items thread on etsy.com to say hi, so I asked her if she'd like to be this week's Interstate Interview. This is one lucky Hoosier - she has a chance to hula!

Where are you from originally?
I was born and raised in South Bend, Indiana. Go Irish!

Where do you live now? What took you there?
We now live in Kailua, Hawaii. The surf, sand and my husbands job (geologist) brought us out here.

What is your educational background, as it relates to your work?
My educational background does not really relate to my work. I guess the only connection is that my income helps to pay our bills which include those delightful Student Loans.

What got you started creating?
I began creating therapy toys for my special needs daughter. Her therapist saw the potential with the toys and I began to take orders. I do not sell my therapy toys on Etsy because we are currently in the process of having them manufactured. However, the therapy toys were the stepping stone for other creations.

Do you belong to any Street Teams? If so, which ones?
I belong to the Etsy Hawaii Street Team, and Natural Kids Team. Both are fantastic groups of women.

What's your favorite aspect of Etsy?
Would I sound like a total "Kiss Up" if I said the community is my favorite aspect of selling on esty? LOL! ....Well, all joking aside it IS my favorite thing. I sell on other sites as well, but this is where I found my friends.

What are your five fave shops on Etsy?
Five favorite shops...Well it's hard to narrow it down but these are some of my favorite

CrowleyManor.etsy.com (Organic Cold Pressed Soap)

TheSingingBird.etsy.com (Cutest felted birdies you have ever seen)

fiab65.etsy.com (handmade leather sandals and shoes)

roboboy.etsy.com (because I think this kiddo draws the sweetest robots)

DawnAliceDesigns.etsy.com (Check out her wooden people)

Show us three of your favorite pieces from your own shop:

My Little Girl Friend Dolls:

My Matryoshka Sock Dolls (designed by my kiddos):

ANNNND my Girlie Goth Rag Dolls:

Anything to add?
Thank you so much for this opportunity Carolynn. Again, I was so pleased to find your thread.

Best,

Denise
